Long Tall Sally

Long Tall Sally

As a new member of Soul Stories, Sue has not yet produced a piece specifically for this exhibition. “Long Tall Sally” is included to illustrate the type of work she will contribute.

I've created with fabric collage only on the patterning of this beautiful, long-legged, amazing animal. It was inspired by many photos I've taken on my first trip to Kenya. In between the collage patches is just the hand painted background, so the giraffe appears “see through.” This is my take on the diminishing of these and so many beautiful animals through unlawful hunting and poaching. I free-motioned details with thread painting, then added silk cocoon for texture. The webbed holes represent the effects of climate change and therefore added stress for the survival of so many of the African animals.
