Gail Garber
Garber was introduced to quiltmaking 45 years ago
and immediately fell in love with this textile art form.
She began designing her own quilts soon afterward,
publishing in magazines, and creating a line of quilting
patterns. Author of three books, her work is internationally recognized and is highly regarded for her
design workshops and entertaining lectures.
Gail and others founded Hawks Aloft, Inc., a New Mexico conservation organization that conducts avian research, classroom education featuring live non-releasable raptors and raptor rescue. Several permanently injured education raptors are housed in outdoor flight cages at her Albuquerque home.

Climate Change
As a new member of Soul Stories, Gail has not yet produced a piece specifically for this exhibition. “Climate Change” is included to illustrate the type of work she will contribute.
“Climate Change” is a study in extremes: warm versus cool and gentle curves versus jagged edginess. Climate change is neither gradual or calm, but can be quite violent, as evidenced by the catastrophic hurricanes of
2024, the most devastating of which was Hurricane Helene that ravaged the Carolinas, and the massive Los Angeles Wildfires of 2025. As of April 2025, a total of 610 fires have burned 59,176 acres across the state.
